Research Fellow (Modelling of Nature-based solutions for climate resilience)

The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University is an interdisciplinary School that aims to be a world leader in environmental research focusing on environmental challenges in Asia. ASE integrates earth and environmental life science, ecology, engineering and technology, human ecology, humanities, and the social sciences to address key issues of the environment and sustainability.

The research laboratory on Resilient and Inclusive cities at ASE addresses important challenges related to rapid urbanization and climate change in Asia-Pacific. It focuses on understanding and modelling the benefits of nature-based solutions – e.g. urban parks or peri-urban forests, road trees, green roofs – in the region to inform policy and practice, and create more resilient and inclusive cities. The program builds upon an interdisciplinary approach, combining geospatial modeling of urban environments and empirical studies of urban practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a new research project on modelling nature-based solutions for flood risk and urban heat mitigation in Southeast Asian cities.

  • Review recent literature, curating data, and producing regional guidelines for nature-based solutions modelling in cities, based on several in-depth case studies.

  • Support ongoing and future research projects examining the potential of nature-based solutions to improve resilience in Singapore and regional case studies (including the role of informal settlements in rapidly-urbanising areas, and in informal settlements).

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering or equivalent Experience in environmental modelling

  • Experience or strong interest in nature-based solutions in urban environments

  • Good command of GIS software and relevant modelling software (e.g., R, InVEST)

  • Strong record of publications (commensurate with research experience).

  • Preferably with work experience in the Asia-Pacific region

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
